Step 1: Preparation & Requirements
Ensure a smooth setup by gathering all necessary items in a private, secure environment. Never perform this setup in public or on a computer you do not trust.
- Trezor Device (Model One or Model T)
- Original USB Cable
- Computer with Internet Access
- The official physical **Recovery Seed Card**
Step 2: Connect and Access Trezor.io/start
Your journey begins on the official gateway. This ensures you download legitimate software and firmware.
- Navigate to the official setup page: **trezor.io/start**.
- Plug your Trezor device into your computer using the USB cable.
- The website should recognize your device type and guide you to the next necessary application.
Step 3: Download & Install Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite is the modern interface for managing your wallet, replacing the older Trezor Wallet interface.
- Follow the on-screen prompt to **Download Trezor Suite** for your specific operating system (Windows/macOS/Linux).
- Install the application, following standard installation procedures.
- Launch Trezor Suite; it should automatically detect your connected device and guide you to install firmware if required.
Step 4: The CRUCIAL Recovery Seed Backup
This 12/18/24 word phrase is your absolute backup. Anyone with this seed has full control over your funds. **Protect it fiercely.**
⚠️ ABSOLUTELY VITAL ⚠️
Write the seed words down ONLY on the physical card provided. Never take a photo, type it, email it, or store it digitally. Treat it like a physical bearer bond.
- Select **Create New Wallet** in Trezor Suite.
- Choose **Standard Backup** and proceed.
- The words will appear on the **Trezor's physical screen**. Carefully write them down in the correct order.
- Confirm the words when prompted. Store the card securely.
Step 5: Set Your Device PIN
The PIN prevents unauthorized access if someone steals your device. It is entered uniquely via the Trezor screen/computer screen interaction.
- Select **Set PIN** in Trezor Suite.
- Look at the **randomized numbers** shown on the Trezor device screen.
- Click the **corresponding positions** on the number grid displayed on your computer screen to enter your chosen 4-9 digit PIN.
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm.
Step 6: Finish and Manage
Congratulations! Your Trezor is set up and secured. You can now manage your crypto assets.
- You can optionally **Name your Trezor** for easy identification.
- Use the **Trezor Suite dashboard** to check balances, send, and receive assets.
- **Always verify** the receiving address on the Trezor device's physical screen before confirming a transaction.
